Profile

Matthew L. Seror’s practice includes all aspects of litigation, with particular emphasis on intellectual property and complex commercial matters.

Mr. Seror has represented clients in matters involving copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, trade dress, and unfair competition. In addition to his work before federal and state courts across the country, Mr. Seror regularly litigates matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.  He also counsels clients on effective means of protecting intellectual property assets and frequently represents clients with respect to licensing, enforcement and brand protection matters.

In addition to his work in the intellectual property arena, Mr. Seror represents a number of companies, start-ups, financial institutions, receivers and other court appointed fiduciaries in complex commercial and real estate matters. His extensive experience includes matters involving contractual disputes, secured transactions, fraud, mechanic lien litigation, partnership disputes, real estate disputes, and securities violations.

Mr. Seror has been recognized by Super Lawyer Magazine as a Southern California Super Lawyer Rising Star from 2009-2019 and a Southern California Super Lawyer in 2020 and 2021, a distinction recognizing the top two and one-half percent of California attorneys under the age of 40 for excellence in the practice of law. In addition to this distinction, in 2015, 2016 and 2017 Super Lawyer Magazine also recognized Mr. Seror as an Up-and-Coming 100, an honor reserved for the attorneys who ranked among the top 100 during the Rising Star selection process.

Mr. Seror is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at Southwestern Law School where he teaches courses in Intellectual Property Licensing and Trademark law.

Professional Career

Significant Accomplishments
<ul><li>Secured a defense verdict (and sizable judgment) in favor of an international university following a five-day bench trial in the Los Angeles Superior Court.</li><li>Successfully defended an apparel manufacturer in a copyright infringement trial in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.</li><li>In a matter brought in the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Mr. Seror defeated an attempt by a former distributor of the client to block the client’s trademark registration.</li><li>Successfully represented a Court appointed receiver charged with the completion, marketing and sale of over twenty-eight residential communities located across the western United States.</li><li>Prevailed in a copyright and trade dress infringement action brought against a client by a rival seeking to quash competition. In addition to prevailing on the merits, client was awarded its attorney’s fees and costs in defending the case.</li><li>Successfully represented an apparel manufacturer in a breach of contract case related to defective merchandise.</li><li>Obtained a preliminary injunction enjoining the continued infringement of client’s trademarks by a competitor in online advertisements.</li><li>Serves as outside general counsel to a digital marketing start-up company.</li></ul>
