Profile

Adriana Castro, Partner at BLP in San José, Costa Rica, has more than 20 years of experience in Business Law and Telecommunications, Media & Technology. She specializes in starting and maintaining operations for national and transnational companies, with an emphasis on technology. She leads cross-border transactions in Latin America and the Caribbean, excelling in corporate restructuring, shareholder conflict resolution, and family businesses, and is recognized for her comprehensive approach to understanding her clients’ businesses. She is Co-Vice-Chair of the IBA Young Lawyers Committee and Officer at the IBA Latin American Regional Forum. Additionally, she is President of the Costa Rica Chapter of Women in a Legal World (WLW). At the local level, Adrian is a member of the board of directors of the Young People of Costa Rica Foundation and is the executive director of the Catalina Vega Foundation. Additionally, she actively participates on the board of directors of several family businesses. She joined BLP as a Paralegal in 2003, was promoted to Associate in 2007, and was subsequently appointed Partner in 2017.

Professional Career

Significant Accomplishments
Acquisition of CEMEX operations in Costa Rica and El Salvador. BLP advised Cementos Progreso Holdings, S.L. on the acquisition of CEMEX’s assets in Costa Rica and El Salvador worth approximately $335 million. This transaction involved the work of our teams in Costa Rica and El Salvador.
Strategic acquisition in the life sciences sector in Central America. BLP advised its client, Barentz International, a global distributor of ingredients in the life sciences industry, on the acquisition of 100% of the shares of Distribuciones Industriales Variadas, S.A. (Divsa) in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic, the British Virgin Islands, and Mexico. 
Cross-border corporate restructuring. BLP advised UFINET on cross-border corporate restructuring of its maritime cabling division in Costa Rica and Panama.
AkzoNobel completes Grupo Orbis acquisition. BLP advised the seller, Grupo Orbis (Pintuco), on this regionally impactful transaction, employing attorneys from our offices in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala, coordinating with lawyers in Panama, and conducting due diligence in the jurisdictions of Central America.
Acquisition of Tica Bus by Mobility ADO. The Mexican transportation group Mobility ADO, which carries more than 500 million passengers annually in America and Europe, acquired, with the advice of BLP, the remaining 60% of the Costa Rican transport company Tica Bus, completing an acquisition of the company and its related entities in Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and México.
First acquisition of Culligan Water in Central America. BLP represented Culligan Water in the acquisition of a controlling interest in Más Pura, a water purifying company with offices in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panamá, Perú, and Chile.
BLP advised CMI on the acquisition of Corporación AUG in Costa Rica. This sweeping transaction involved a series of critical stages and a diverse group of sellers, marking a significant milestone for CMI in the country following the devastating fire at its plant in early 2023.
BLP advises Aptean on the acquisition of RLM Apparel Software Systems. BLP has advised Aptean, a global provider of business software solutions, on the acquisition of certain assets of the Costa Rican company JD Soft de Costa Rica S.A., as part of the acquisition process of its US affiliate company RLM Apparel Software Systems (RLM).
