Jon Kendrick is a Senior Counsel in Buchalter’s Sacramento office, and a member of the firm’s Energy & Natural Resources and Real Estate Practice Groups.

As a member of Buchalter’s Energy & Natural Resources Practice Group, Jon advises clients in transactional, regulatory and compliance issues for energy-related matters. Jon’s practice includes negotiating power purchase agreements, solar leases, and other business arrangements, and performing regulatory due diligence for project sales, acquisitions, and financing. Jon helps clients navigate California’s ever-evolving regulatory environment and renewable energy incentive programs. Such work involves representing clients in matters before the California Energy Commission (CEC) related to energy efficiency standards, grant programs, and power plant siting. Jon also represents large power users in matters before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Jon advises clients on clean energy and climate change aspects of the Inflation Reduction Act and its impact on transactions, regulatory ramifications and tax credit benefits, including ITC, PTC and the newly added credits for storage and other technologies.

Jon’s real estate practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, including commercial leasing and purchases and sales. Jon represents various clients including developers, lenders, investors, landlords, and tenants. Jon has helped structure, draft, and negotiate real estate transactions for a variety of projects including warehouse distribution hubs, utility-scale and commercial/industrial solar, healthcare facilities and medical offices, manufacturing facilities, retail stores, mixed-use, and commercial offices.

Jon has been recognized as a Top Lawyer by Sacramento Magazine in the fields of Energy & Natural Resources (2022 – 2024) and Real Estate (2023 – 2024). He was also recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2023 and 2024.

<ul><li>Advised developer of energy projects on changes to energy-related tax credits made by the Inflation Reduction Act.</li><li>Represented clients in settlement negotiations with the California Energy Commission.</li><li>Negotiated solar leases on behalf of landowners for utility-scale solar projects.</li><li>Represented major retailers in negotiating warehouse distribution hub and retail location leases.</li><li>Assisted biodiesel wholesaler in setting up California operations.</li><li>Advised large healthcare provider on both the tenant and landlord sides of medical office space leasing.</li><li>Represented groups of large power users in ratemaking and rulemaking proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission.</li><li>Advised independent power producer in the repowering of existing power plants.</li><li>Advised geothermal power plant owner on the drafting, interpretation, and revision of contract terms related to existing and proposed Power Purchase Agreements.</li><li>Represented independent power producer in dispute with utility over power purchase agreement.</li><li>Represented developer in connection with development of new retail locations with a major coffee chain as anchor tenant.</li><li>Provided legal advice to consumer product manufacturing trade group on California’s Proposition 65 law and regulations.</li><li>Perform regulatory due-diligence associated with project sales, acquisitions, and financing.</li></ul>
