Profile

James Saeli (“Jamie”) has over 10 years experience advising clients on the tax aspects of real estate finance and securitization transactions. Jamie provides federal income tax guidance to clients across the real estate finance industry, from commercial loan origination and modification to warehousing, securitization and resecuritization, as well as other lending arrangements and financing transactions. In addition to mortgage lending and financing, Jamie provides tax advice on financing of master servicing rights, servicer advance facilities and home equity improvement investment facilities. Jamie also advises clients on credit-card, auto loan, student loan and other types of commercial lending securitization and financing transactions.

Jamie has experience advising issuers, underwriters and loan sellers in connection with “real estate investment conduits” (“REMICs”) and other tax-advantaged real estate investment vehicles. Jamie’s practice primarily focuses on residential mortgage securitization at Hunton, while prior to joining Hunton Jamie’s practice was focused on commercial mortgage securitization.

Jamie also invests significant time into pro bono work, advising clients on a wide range of issues. Jamie has represented pro bono veteran clients before the Veterans Administration. Jamie also served on active duty in the Air Force and received his honorable discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 2006. Jamie continues to be an active participant in the veteran community.
