Shoosmiths strengthens its data privacy offering with new partner hire

London, 30 September 2024 – Shoosmiths is pleased to announce the appointment of Partner Kate Brimsted to the Privacy & Data team in London. Kate will enhance the team’s premier market offering, particularly with her real estate and financial services sector experience.

Kate joins the firm from BCLP, where she was the UK head of Data Privacy and Security from 2017. She brings over 20 years’ experience in data privacy, cyber security, and information law, and is widely recognised for her market expertise. Her practice involves advising clients from sectors including, but not limited to, real estate, financial services, technology, manufacturing, and energy.

Chambers UK and the Legal 500 have identified Kate as a Leading Individual for Data Protection & Information Law. Who’s Who Legal named her as a Global Leader for Data Privacy and Best Lawyers (UK), and Best of the Best (Global) have listed her as a key player in Privacy and Data Protection Law. She is also recognised as a Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyer. In addition, Kate is active in industry bodies, serving on the editorial board and the examination board of the Journal of Privacy and Data Protection. She is also a member of the City of London Law Society’s Data Committee and the Practical Law Data Protection Consultation Board.

Sitting within the firm’s Commercial group, the Privacy & Data team has a broad international client base and is at forefront of groundbreaking projects across the firm’s key sectors, including automotive, financial services, technology, and energy and infrastructure. Kate will further bolster the team’s role in facilitating innovative projects and mandates in these sectors, as well as bringing an additional, deep understanding of the real estate sector.
